Endocrine Research Center
Endocrine Research Center (ERC) is one of the major medical research centers of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is affiliated to Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and has been active in the field of endocrine, epidemiologic, basic, and clinical medical research since 1990. This center is located at Velenjak in the northern region of Tehran, the capital of Iran. A separate building in the east of Tehran has been dedicated to Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS), the first prospective cohort study of cardiovascular risk factors in Iran. One of the distinguishing features of ERC is collaboration with local and international organizations and authorities. Therefore it has become the ideal place for design and implementation of educational workshops, national research studies and international seminars and congresses.
The significant strength of ERC lies in its dedication to excellence and quality in medical research. The necessary facilities and qualified human resources are available at this center for basic and clinical research studies. The research laboratory of ERC supports the investigators in reliable assessments with state-of-the-art technologies and trained personnel. Due to these capabilities, the National Research Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran has funded three large-scale national studies to be conducted at ERC. This center has also played a crucial role in the national campaign against Iodine-Deficiency Disorders (IDD). The numerous research studies performed at ERC have helped to confirm the sustainable elimination of IDD from Iran (one of the first countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region to achieve this public health goal).
