Endocrine Research Centre

About Endocrine Research Center

         History

The Endocrine Research Center (ERC) began its work since 1981 in the field of basic, clinical, and applied epidemiological research with a view to identifying and controlling endocrinal and metabolic disorders and to cooperate in the prevention and elimination of problems related to this field. The center was officially recognized as an accredited research center in 1994 by the Council for Expansion of Medical Universities. In 1995 its main center was established in the Taleghani Hospital with financial aid from the offices of the President and the following year it achieved independent financial statue, receiving official funding from the planning and Funding organization of the Iranian government. In 2000 the ERC was officially recognized as an “advanced research center’ and named the “Research Pole” and selected as an approved “independent center for continuing education”. In 2007, Research Institute of Endocrine Sciences (RIES) has been founded and ERC became one of its affiliated research centers.

One of the distinguishing features of ERC is collaboration with local and international organizations and authorities. Therefore it has become the ideal place for design and implementation of educational workshops, national research studies and international seminars and congresses.

The significant strength of ERC lies in its dedication to excellence and quality in medical research. The necessary facilities and qualified human resources are available at this center for basic and clinical research studies. The research laboratory of RIES supports the investigators in reliable assessments with state-of-the-art technologies and trained personnel. This center has played a crucial role in the national campaign against Iodine-Deficiency Disorders (IDD). The numerous research studies performed at ERC have helped to confirm the sustainable elimination of IDD from Iran (one of the first countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region to achieve this public health goal).
